My absolutely gorgeous cousin Olivia allowed me the great honor of taking not only one but many of these amazing portraits. A few years ago, I was taking her brother’s images and trying to capture the same thing. I think Olivia just about perfected this for me. Her eyes are so full of hope, and she just absolutely beams. I couldn’t be more proud of her and can’t believe that these images came out of my camera!
I have to send a HUGE thank you to my wonderful Aunt Cindy and incredible cousin Taylor for their help in setting up shots. For this shoot I did, in fact, remember my umbrella, but my flash wasn’t firing! The luck! I couldn’t figure it out. I was using a sync cord to get the flash away from the camera (a must to make the flash work in the professional world – images just do not compare) and I’d press the shutter and nothing would happen. The flash would work on camera, but not on the sync cord – boy was I sweating… I had a wedding to shoot tomorrow which I absolutely needed this sync cord to work!
Well, I wasn’t worried about Olivia’s images, she was stunning and I had brought my trusty 5-in-1 reflector. The great thing about bringing a trusted friend or sibling along on a senior shoot is the bond between the two eases any tension, and there is usually quite a game of the friend helping me direct the reflector. If you have ever been privy to being in front of a reflector during a shoot, it is shining light right at you! This can be quite fun for a pair of friends. Taylor was an amazing gaffer and great at finding the sun to reflect at different angles onto Olivia. I wish everyone could have as great of a shoot as we had that day. The weather was beautiful, the surroundings were amazing (we went to a wonderful nature garden), company was awesome, and my model was absolutely stunning.
To see how the sync cord dilemma worked itself out… stay tuned for tomorrow’s blog.
