Fresh Air Portraits in Ottawa, IL & Surrounding Areas.

I wasn’t raised in a barn.  I had a barn but nothing close to a farm growing up.  I lived smack dab in the middle of a bustling little town in Michigan.  One block from school and a five minute drive to the nearest corn field.  Even though my life consisted of fast food and shopping malls, I grew a love for fresh air and vintage finds as I aged.  To this day, some of my most treasured shooting locations include weathered old barns, matured and natured trees, and  country roads.

Today’s session with little Lucas was one of those treasures.  I have been photographing this little charmer since he could barely sit up!  His family are big farmers so fresh air and dirt are in his blood.  There wasn’t much thought of a setting other than a barn or pasture!  Little Lucas did excellent for our sunset shoot.  He turned one in the same month and was showing off his standing skills.  In honor of the momentous birthday it was decided to do a fruit smash (a great alternative to a sugary cake smash)!  I have done this before and I can’t stress enough how much fun it is.  Lucas loved the watermelon and his smiles were real and alive. If cake isn’t in your little one’s diet or you are trying to curb the consumption of frosting try watermelon, banana ice cream, a strawberry tower, or other fruit delicacy.

I love this old barn. It is a beauty but unfortunatly not really functional for modern farming.
I love this old barn. It is a beauty but unfortunatly it’s not really functional for modern farming.  I fear it won’t be standing much longer.  If you have an old barn in LaSalle County you’d love to let me borrow for a shoot please send me an email!
