Oh my it’s that time again and I’m not sure I could be anymore excited. I get to share 11 of my favorite images of the month!
October was a full bustling month professionally and personally. I have been obtaining my goal of writing 2-3 posts a week with the exception of Halloween week. Halloween happened and took most of my attention! I love Halloween. Maybe it was that I was a rule follower most of my childhood and Halloween was one night of the year I could express myself and get attention for it. One year I asked to dress up as Betty White. I’m not sure how I would have accomplished this as a 4th grader and no wrinkles, but I surely wanted to. She was beloved on my TV set for Golden Girls and in my book one of the funniest ladies. At this time I also wanted to be a comedian when I grew up . I loved making people laugh and smile so I guess in a way I still get to do this as a photographer – dream fulfilled! Well, that year, my mom decided to make me a clown with my brother instead of a Golden Girl. I will say the clown costumes were very original and super cute. I’d adore to photograph anyone in as original costumes as my mother made us and I am glad I got that experience. The longing is still there and one day I will be Betty White and maybe a good friend will be my Dorothy or Blanche.
This year I asked Ruby what she would like to be. Being a good 21st Century mother I pulled out the computer and looked up costumes. The consensus I got from my almost three year old is that she loves animals and anything that looked super cool. She’s a girl after my own heart. So I did some thinking and decided it wouldn’t be too bad to make both of us owls for the occaision. The materials cost a little more than I envisioned and took about 6 hours to complete but I felt so accomplished to do it. I als love that they are original and no one on the block was dressed up as pink and grey owls except us. We get over 350 trick-or-treaters this year, I can honestly say not one pink and grey owl came to my door. SUccess! We were a hoot! Best of all, Ruby could wear her costume and let it be seen whether it was warm or cold out making this Midwest mommy happy.
