Big things are happening! Have happened! Will continue to happen!
Oh my goodness it has been a while since I have blogged about anything on here. For those of you who are new to Petal Lens Photography/Red Jasper Artistry or are interested in the development of my business I'll fill you in. About a year an half ago I documented a wonderful wedding and then went on a hiatus. My husband and I had decided we wanted to move back to our home state of Michigan and were deep in the throes of job searching and house fixing in our then location of Illinois. Fast forward a year and a half we have settled into one of my most favorite cities in the world Ann Arbor, MI. We are close to family, friends, and building a wonderful little life in the mitten.
In the past year we have worked tirelessly foot by foot rehabbing a 1980's spectacular home and the 3 acres it sits on. It's a huge project but it's finally to a point where I can breath a little easier. Most rooms are respectable colors and we only have maybe 2 more boxes to unpack! In the past 6 months I have picked up a few freelancing gigs in Ann Arbor and decided it was time to start documenting families again.
With the new name comes a new idea of business. I will continue to enthusiastically offer family, child, and adult portraits, work freelance for great organizations such as Ann Arbor Educational Foundation, Crazy Wisdom Journal. Through my work with journals and documenting how educational grants are being implemented I found a new love for documentary photography. With this is mind I have decided to bring a little bit of this into Petal Lens. I will be offering Storytelling Sessions.
These part photojournalistic/part posed sessions are great. They come complete with a custom designed photographic book and work around your life, ideas, interests, and ideas. I am so intruiged with documenting the things/places/people you love. This type of session will savor the little things that are so hard to forget, yet harder to explain how wonderfully they emotional impact you. We'll pick a favorite place/activity and document that. If I were to ask for a session for myself it would be our morning routines. My girls playing in the sandbox, sliding down the slide, eating lunch at the table while I run around like a chicken with her head cut off and then nursing my littlest before nap time. These are the moments I will treasure in memory and would love to be able to look back on visually. Others might choose a favorite park they play at, an activity such as boating, hiking, library time, or shopping. You name it we can artistically and lovingly document it.
In celebration of a new way of business I would like to offer a 30% discount to storytelling sessions booked for the month of August. Stay tuned for more goodness, a new web address, and stories from behind the lens!
