When life gives you lemons, sometimes, you do a pivot and grab a glass of apple juice instead. That is exactly what we decided to do when we were planning for a Sunday morning portrait session at The Arb and instead found a marathon running through it. Why, yes we could have found parking and then walked through the marathon and a few miles back to where I had planned our session, but instead The S family trusted in me and decided a city walk session would exciting. And let me tell you - it was everything I had dreamed - once we got there!
We luckily found parking very close to my intended shoot (away from the marathon), and with it being Sunday morning, crowds were at a minimum. We started with some general shots in Liberty Plaza while it was empty (this is late March in Michigan - brr!) and then decided to warm up at Sweetwaters coffee shop. This is where it got fun. We found the CUTEST Michigan cookie (with a heart on Ann Arbor!) for our little man to nibble on. He did his best hipster impression during our shoot and it was fabulous. Then we stopped in front of the Michigan theatre where it was irresistible for people to not smile and talk to him, and finished in my favorite graffiti clad alley. I just love all of the hats his mom packed for him as well as the bold stripes on their outfits. It was so sharp against the grafitti in the alley.
For me, this was the perfect outdoor March shoot. We didn't have to worry about greenery in the background as we had all the exciting city scape to fill in. The temperature wasn't too bad of an issue as we had many places to stop and warm up. Lastly, with Michigan's notorious overcast days, we didn't have to worry about harsh sunlight. And who doesn't love coffee and cookies!?!
